Baptism
For Children 6 years and UNder
We welcome parents who are seeking baptism for their children, the first sacrament celebrated in the process of becoming a full member of the Catholic Church. The waters of baptism symbolize life, grace, new birth, cleansing, and renewal as we begin a new life in Christ. We look forward to celebrate your child as a member of the family of God and a member of our Catholic community here at St. Pius X Parish.
If you desire to baptized your child, please note that at least one of the parents needs to be Catholic; however, if one or both of the parents have expressed an intent to become Catholic, the child may be baptized. As long as there is an earnest desire for the child to be reared in the Catholic faith, the Church will work with the parents on baptizing the child and addressing any specific concerns.
To schedule your child’s baptism at St. Pius X, you will need to:
-
Be a registered member of St. Pius X Parish, offering your time, talent, and treasure to the parish. If you are not a registered parishioner and would like the baptism celebrated here, we need a letter of consent from your pastor stating that you’re allowed to do so. If we are your parish, and you have not registered, you can do so here.
-
Choose one or two godparents. Godparents must be at least 16 years old. They should be fully initiated Catholics in good standing (this means they have received Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. They are living their Christian vocation as a single person in chastity or they are validly married in the Catholic Church). Godparents must fill out this Oath and send it by email it to sacraments@stpius.org.
-
Attend a Baptism preparation class. Parents and Godparents should attend a baptism class. We offer baptism preparation classes at St. Pius X on the first Saturday of the month in English, and the First Sunday of the month in Spanish. *Classes have a cost of $30 for registered members and $50 for non-registered members.
-
Godparents who live far away may attend the Baptism Preparation class at their parish and send the certificate of completion by email.
-
If you (or a godparent) have attended a Baptism Preparation Class in the last 3 years, your preparation is still valid and you do not need to attend a Baptism Preparation Class. If the class was attended in St. Pius X, please send us an email with the class date. If the class was attended in another parish, please send us the Certificate of Completion to sacraments@stpius.org.
