Becoming Catholic

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults/Children is the process in which interested individuals become full members of the Roman Catholic Church:

  • Catechumens are those seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Ages 7 and older.

  • Candidates are those baptized in one of the Eastern Orthodox or Protestant traditions but are seeking full communion with the Catholic Church through Eucharist and Confirmation. Ages 7 and older. 

 

OCIA/C is a journey of Faith, Conversion, and Catechesis which leads to the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation namely Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist during the Easter Vigil on March 27th, 2027 at 8:30 PM.​

Anyone becoming Catholic needs sponsors and community support to help them grow in the faith. You will have an opportunity to meet mature Christians who will pray with and guide you on this journey during classes.

Classes begin Sunday, October 4th, 2026 at 9:15 AM

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

  • Classes will be almost every Sunday.

  • Duration - 1 hour

  • Location - Parish Office

  • Additionally, to the weekly instructional meetings, there will be liturgical rites during the year and a rehearsal the morning of Easter Vigil.

The OCIA program is for you if you are 13 years or older and are:

  • An unbaptized individual: Individuals who have never been baptized in any Christian tradition and wish to join the Catholic Church.

  • Baptized in other Christian traditions: Those baptized in other Christian denominations but seeking full communion with the Catholic Church through sacraments.

  • A baptized Catholic with incomplete sacraments: Catholics baptized as infants but who did not receive religious education, Confirmation, or First Eucharist.

  • Seeking to know more: The OCIA process is also open to anyone who is simply seeking to learn more about the Catholic Church and its teachings.

Reception of the Sacraments of Initiation: Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, March 2027 at 8:30 PM.

Registration Fee:

$80 for students who attend the St. Pius X School

$120 for parishioners (must be a registered parishioner for at least 6 months),

$150 non-parishioners.

Order of Christian Initiation of Children

The OCIC program is for:

  • Unbaptized children (7-12 years old) who are interested in becoming full members of the Catholic Church. This means that these children will receive all the three Sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion.

  • Children (7-12 years old) baptized in other Christian traditions seeking to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church and receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion.

This program has 3 parts: First Communion Classes, Baptism Classes, and Confirmation Classes. 

  • First Communion Classes:​

    • SPX School 2nd graders will receive instruction during school hours in Religion Class. 

    • Non-SPX School 2nd graders will have to attend classes on Sundays. Classes will be almost every Sunday in the Community Center and will last 1 hour. The first class will be on Sunday, October 4th at 9:15 AM. 

  • Baptism and Confirmation Classes:

    • Classes will be held 5 Sundays in the fall and 5 Sundays in the spring. These classes are for all students (SPX School and Non-SPX School).

    • Class duration & location: 1 hour in the Parish Office

    • Any additional classes deemed necessary will be communicated along the way. 

  • Additionally, to the Sunday instructional meetings, there will be liturgical rites during the year and a rehearsal the morning of Easter Vigil.
